Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – June 05, 2024 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX held the 2nd Quarter Disaster Preparedness Committee Meeting at Kalikasan Hall, Hotel Guillermo, Pagadian City. LGCDD Chief, LGOO VII Alvin Rex M. Lucero presided over the meeting, which gathered key stakeholders to deliberate on essential updates and initiatives related to disaster preparedness and resilience.
The meeting began with PAGASA IX presenting an in-depth Climate Outlook, which emphasized the expected weather trends and possible climate risks for the region. Subsequently, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO) of Zamboanga del Sur shared updates on preparedness for El Niño and La Niña, highlighting the strategies implemented to lessen the impacts of these climatic events.
DILG IX provided updates regarding the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), emphasizing the significance of local government adherence to disaster preparedness criteria to improve community resilience. Moreover, DILG IX introduced the L!sto Teams concept, outlining their functions and duties in disaster response and management.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) IX presented important updates regarding the Gawad Kalasag program, which acknowledged exceptional efforts in disaster risk reduction and management. They also discussed preliminary plans for activities during the 2024 National Disaster Resilience Month, with a focus on raising awareness and encouraging proactive steps in disaster preparedness.
The meeting ended with member agencies showcasing their achievements in disaster preparedness for the second quarter, in line with the objectives of Thematic Area 2. This demonstrated their collective dedication to improving disaster resilience throughout the region.
