Zoom Teleconference – With a resolute commitment to strengthening urban communities and fostering lasting peace and development, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX organized a virtual re-orientation on the Capacitating Urban Communities for Peace and Development (CUCPD) Program.
The main objective of this endeavor is to equip selected Local Government Units (LGUs) with the necessary knowledge for the successful implementation of the CUCPD Program. Aligned with the directives outlined in DILG MC No. 2021-063 for the year 2023, this event serves as a platform to introduce the upcoming roll-out of the CUCPD Program to the municipalities of Dumingag and Molave in Zamboanga del Sur, the Municipality of Leon B. Postigo in Zamboanga del Norte, and the City of Zamboanga.
Taking part in this initiative are the DILG-Field Officers from the previously mentioned municipalities and city. Their invaluable insights and active participation play a significant role in establishing the foundation for the comprehensive execution of the CUCPD Program. Moreover, contributing to the discourse are the City Local Government Operations Officers (CLGOOs) of Pagadian City, Dapitan City, and Dipolog City. These cities were the focus of the program in previous years, aiming to update them and underscore the importance of ongoing monitoring of the interventions agreed upon in their respective LGUs, aimed at addressing the needs of their sectors.
The event was formally opened by RD Paisal O. Abutazil, CESO III, who emphasized the collaborative efforts of the Department and its partners. He underscored the proactive stance of the DILG, collaborating with various national government bodies, to utilize strategies and resources that will strengthen the resilience of recognized and impacted communities. These efforts are aimed at enabling these communities to effectively address potential repercussions of significant armed conflicts, all in pursuit of sustainable peace and development.
Taking on a prominent role as the featured speaker, PDO IV Renard C. Torrecampo provided an extensive analysis of DILG MC 2021-063. This critical document serves as the foundation of the CUCPD program, fostering cooperation among local stakeholders to address urgent issues faced by the society’s most vulnerable sectors influenced by left-leaning ideologies, by leveraging the development gaps they experience. Furthermore, the specifics of the Program were presented, highlighting the processes and steps involved. DILG IX – Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED) Assistant Division Chief (ADC) Elmer Egama conducted an in-depth presentation, meticulously outlining the implementation of the CUCPD program in 2023. Through an engaging presentation, ADC Egama sought the commitment and insights of the participants.
LGMED Chief Jose Ruel D. Trobanos concluded the event with an expression of gratitude and emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration between LGUs and the Department. He underscored the significant contribution of this strong sense of cooperation towards a shared goal. DILG IX’s motivation stems from its unwavering dedication to enhancing urban communities for peace and progress.
