Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – March 13, 2024 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX kicked off its 2024 Sports Activities with a lively ceremony at the Provincial Government Complex in Dao, Pagadian City. 

The ceremony began with a speech from DILG IX Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil, CESO III, emphasizing the role of sports in fostering unity and a healthy lifestyle among participants. This was followed by the torch lighting ceremony, symbolizing the competitive spirit, led by Sports and Cultural Committee Chair Suzette V. Alota, together with Division Chiefs and RD Abutazil. 

The ceremony was significant, highlighted by Administrative Officer III Melvin A. Guhil leading the recitation of the Oath of Sportsmanship, which stressed the importance of fair play and respect for opponents. The teams added to the excitement with energetic team yells, creating an electrifying atmosphere and building anticipation for the upcoming sports competitions.

The event also included a Zumba session for the community, encouraging physical fitness and health among attendees. Moreover, an Amazing Race was arranged, introducing an exciting and competitive aspect to the day’s celebrations. 

The most notable aspect of the opening event was the inclusion of ball games such as Volleyball and Basketball, which drew keen involvement from teams representing different teams within DILG IX. These games not only demonstrated the participants’ athletic abilities but also promoted a feeling of unity and collaboration among them.

The kick-off ceremony for the 2024 DILG IX Sports Activities was highly successful, laying the groundwork for a series of thrilling sports events that will enhance the health, camaraderie, and teamwork among DILG IX employees.
