Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay – The Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU) IX of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region IX recently conducted a site inspection and documentary validation for the proposed Construction of a New Level III Water System and Water Quality Assessment Project in the Municipality of Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay, on May 25, 2026.

Funded under the Local Government Support Fund–Support and Assistance Fund to Participatory Budgeting (LGSF-SAFPB) FY 2026, the project has an allocation of ₱13,333,333.00 and is expected to significantly improve water accessibility and reliability within the municipality.

The validation activity forms part of the pre-implementation process to ensure that all project requirements, technical specifications, and supporting documents are in order prior to project rollout. Once completed, the new Level III water system is expected to augment the municipality’s existing water supply infrastructure, providing a more stable, adequate, and sustainable source of potable water for residents.

The project is projected to benefit approximately 628 households, equivalent to 1,885 individuals, by enhancing access to safe and reliable water services. Improved water availability is expected to contribute to better public health, sanitation, and overall quality of life in the community.

Also present during the inspection was the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region IX, which conducted water quality testing to assess the potability and suitability of the identified water source. The assessment is a crucial step in ensuring that the proposed water system will deliver safe and quality water that meets established standards for human consumption.

The initiative underscores the government’s continuing commitment to strengthening basic infrastructure and improving access to essential services, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Through strategic investments in water supply systems, the project aims to support sustainable development and enhance the well-being of the people of Talusan.
