Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region IX successfully conducted its Regional Basic Fire Safety Orientation and Annual Fire Drill on March 4, 2026, at the DILG IX Grounds, reaffirming its strong commitment to workplace safety, disaster preparedness, and inclusive governance.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Pagadian City Fire Station, whose resource persons facilitated the orientation and supervised the fire drill simulation. Their expertise ensured that personnel received accurate, practical, and up-to-date guidance on fire safety and emergency response.

Held in celebration of National Women’s Month, the activity emphasized not only the importance of fire prevention and emergency readiness but also the vital role of women in leadership, nation-building, and community resilience. The observance served as a reminder that preparedness and resilience must be inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of all personnel.

In his message, Assistant Regional Director and Officer-In-Charge Engr. Carmelo Enrique B. Libot, CESO V, emphasized that emergencies often present unique vulnerabilities for women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities. As an institution promoting good governance and inclusive development, the Office pointed up its responsibility to ensure that safety protocols and emergency response mechanisms are gender-responsive and sensitive to everyone’s needs.

The orientation strengthened employees’ knowledge on fire prevention measures, proper use of firefighting equipment, and established evacuation procedures. It also reinforced the principle that safety is a shared responsibility—regardless of position, role, or gender.

The annual fire drill that followed allowed personnel to translate learning into action through realistic simulation exercises. Such drills build confidence and discipline, ensuring that employees respond with calmness and efficiency in the event of a real emergency.

As National Women’s Month is celebrated nationwide, DILG Region IX reaffirmed that empowerment through preparedness remains a priority. By equipping its workforce with the right knowledge and skills, and through sustained partnerships with agencies such as the BFP – Pagadian City Fire Station, the Office continues to foster a culture of resilience that extends beyond the workplace and into the community.
