Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – March 11, 2024 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX commenced the 2024 National Women’s Month with a unique event at Balay Paglaum sa Maayong Magbalantay (BPMM), a sanctuary for children affected by domestic abuse and Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).
The ceremony commenced with a sincere address from Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil, CESO III of DILG IX, highlighting the significance of empowering women and safeguarding them against all types of violence.
The event was marked by an inspiring personal journey shared by the DILG IX Local Government Capacity Development Division (LGCDD) Chief Alvin Rex M. Lucero, captivating the audience. Additionally, Attorney Angelika U. Vega provided insights into Republic Act (RA) 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act, which is designed to safeguard individuals from sexual harassment in public areas.
A statement from a previous recipient of support from the Good Shepherd Foundation highlighted how assistance and empowerment can transform lives.
The event also featured the distribution of items and tokens to the recipients of Balay Paglaum sa Maayong Magbalantay, offering crucial support and demonstrating unity in their path to healing.
The children at the shelter had a great time playing parlor games, which brought smiles and laughter to their faces. Dr. Movie Olitres also led a psychosocial activity, offering them comfort and support.
The ceremony marked a significant beginning to the 2024 National Women’s Month Celebration of DILG IX, highlighting their dedication to promoting gender equality and empowerment.
