May 09-11, 2023 | With the intention of strengthening the efficacy of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Local Special Bodies (LSBs), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX and the City of Zamboanga teamed up for the conduct of the Enhancing Effectiveness of Civil Society Organizations Course at the Zamboanga Seafoods House, San Roque, Zamboanga City.

This transformative event provided CSOs with invaluable knowledge and tools to enhance their impact and effectiveness in LSBs.

The training brought together participating CSOs from the Local Development Council, Local Health Board, and Local School Board, all of whom enthusiastically engaged in the all-encompassing program. The primary aim of the training was to equip CSO members with invaluable insights and competencies to fortify their involvement in the LSBs, ultimately paving the way for enhanced governance effectiveness and efficiency at the grassroots level.

The training showcased a distinguished panel of resource persons who generously shared their wealth of expertise and invaluable experiences with the eager participants. Geoffrey Gomisong of the Agri-Aqua Development Coalition and Emma Albarico from the religious sector, are among the invited resource persons who offered profound perspectives on their specific field in the context of local governance.

Moreover, Febie L. Marquez, DMO III of DILG IX, enlightened the audience about the intricate legal frameworks, regulations, and mandates that govern LSBs and CSOs. Alvin Rex M. Lucero, LGOO VII from DILG IX, shared an array of pragmatic strategies and exemplary practices, aimed at fostering seamless collaboration between CSOs and LSBs, ensuring their combined efforts bear fruit in a truly effective and impactful manner.

During the immersive three-day training, attendees actively participated in dynamic dialogues, interactive group exercises, and hands-on simulations, cultivating an atmosphere of collaborative knowledge acquisition. The carefully curated sessions aimed to augment the participants’ comprehension of their duties and obligations within the LSBs, empowering them to make substantial contributions to the shaping of policies and the decision-making fabric.

The participants enthusiastically hailed this initiative, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the invaluable chance to broaden their horizons and forge connections with like-minded individuals. They underscored the significance of these training endeavors in propelling upright governance, empowering communities, and fostering sustainable progress on a local scale.

DILG IX steadfastly upholds its dedication to bolstering CSOs in their endeavors to make a significant impact on local governance. Through the provision of dynamic platforms for skill development and the exchange of wisdom, the Department endeavors to cultivate robust alliances between CSOs and LSBs, culminating in the emergence of inclusive and participatory decision-making practices throughout the region.
