In collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur, the Department of the Interior and Local Government IX – Support to Local Governance Program (SLGP) Team recently conducted a two-day workshop that aimed to advance the capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Local Special Bodies (LSBs) and establish a People’s Council was held on March 30-31, 2021 at the SB Session Hall, Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur.

The primary object of the workshop was to augment the proficiency, competencies, and aptitudes of CSOs, enabling them to partake actively in local special bodies. Additionally, the workshop sought to establish a People’s Council to reinforce local governance.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Noel Pamplona, the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer, who provided a comprehensive overview of the workshop’s objectives. Following the opening remarks, participants were introduced to the four (4) stimulating modules presented by distinguished representatives from the DILG IX – SLGP Team, including Development Management Officer III Febie L. Marquez and Community Development Officer II Jasten Dwight B. Desierto.

The culminating remarks of the workshop were delivered by Meriam Ganub, the Chairwoman of the People’s Council. In her speech, she extended her heartfelt appreciation to the organizers and underscored the significance of the workshop in augmenting the efficacy of local governance while fostering the active engagement of CSOs in critical decision-making processes.

The capacity-building workshop was a triumph, equipping participants with indispensable knowledge and abilities to make significant contributions to their respective communities. The collaborative efforts of the DILG IX SLGP Team and the LGU of Tigbao, persist in advancing the principles of good governance and amplifying local involvement in decision-making procedures.
