Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur – June 11, 2024 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX, in collaboration with DILG Zamboanga del Sur, conducted a project validation for the proposed Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Fund (SGLGIF) project in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur. The project, Ecotourism Park Development at Subeza Rock Formation, in Cuatro-Cuatro, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, aims to enhance the tourism potential of Dumalinao through the development of a rope course activity at the Subeza Cave site. 

The validation team comprised Engr. Alison U. Mayasa of DILG IX, Engr. Vanessa Tompong of DILG Zamboanga del Sur, Engr. Jowen Lance Cagulada, the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC), and barangay functionaries. The team meticulously assessed the proposed site to ensure its viability and alignment with the objectives of the SGLGIF. 

The Ecotourism Park Development project seeks to transform the Subeza Rock Formation into a premier tourism destination by introducing a rope course activity that highlights the area’s stunning natural rock formations. This initiative is expected to boost local tourism, provide recreational opportunities for visitors, and contribute to the economic development of Dumalinao. 

During the validation, the team evaluated the technical aspects of the project, including safety measures, environmental impact, and potential benefits to the local community. Engr. Mayasa and Engr. Tompong provided their expertise in ensuring that the project meets the standards and requirements set forth by the DILG and the SGLG program. 

The LGU and barangay functionaries expressed their full support for the project, emphasizing its significance in promoting sustainable tourism and preserving the natural beauty of the Subeza Rock Formation. They also discussed plans for future collaborations to further enhance the tourism infrastructure in the area. 

DILG IX remains committed to supporting LGUs in their efforts to achieve excellence in governance and development through initiatives like the SGLGIF. The successful validation of the Ecotourism Park Development project marks a significant step forward in realizing Dumalinao’s vision of becoming a top ecotourism destination in Zamboanga del Sur.
