April 10-14, 2023 | The Department of the Interior and Local Government IX with the support of the Local Government Academy facilitated a Training on the Formulation of Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) at Monina’s Pension House, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
The training aimed to provide the participants with the required knowledge and competencies to articulate local priority actions on adaptation and mitigation, as well as to grasp the concept of Low Emission Development (LED) strategies that can reinforce the goal of combatting climate change.
The attendees who graced the event onsite are from Sibuco, Baliguian and La Libertad in Zamboanga del Norte and Tukuran in Zamboanga del Sur.
The training program was meticulously crafted to encompass an array of themes concerning climate change, LCCAP, and greenhouse gas emissions. These sessions were facilitated by luminaries in the field, including Prof. Bobmil Flores of Jose Rizal State Memorial University, Alvin Rex M. Lucero of DILG IX – Local Government Capacity Development Division, Glenn Paul P. Abong of DILG Lapuyan Field Office, Charity D. Serenio of DILG Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Office and Albert G. Camay of Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The sessions were structured to cover different topics, including Climate Change 101, LCCAP process, Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA), Greenhouse Gas Inventory, mitigation actions, planning and budgeting, and the People’s Survival Fund (PSF).
DILG IX Assistant Regional Director, Carmelo Enrique B. Libot, delivered the concluding remarks and praised the participants for their enthusiastic engagement in the training. He also expressed his gratitude for their steadfast dedication to building a more eco-friendly and resilient future for their respective LGUs.
The training equipped the participants with invaluable knowledge and resources to confront the daunting obstacles presented by climate change. With the formulation and execution of LCCAP, the LGUs can proficiently acclimate to the repercussions of climate change, all the while fostering a sustainable framework for development.
