The Department of the Interior and Local Government Regional Office IX conferred the Regional Disaster Preparedness Index (RDPI) awards to 32 local government units (LGUs) in Zamboanga Peninsula last Dec. 3, 2019 at Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City.

The RDPI measures the readiness of LGUS to deliver their mandate in safeguarding the people during calamities and other emergencies through assessments on the level of compliance on the minimum standards of Republic Act 10121 – an act strengthening the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework, and other governing laws and regulations on disaster risk reduction and management.

Zamboanga City and Dipolog City tied the lead in the Best Performing Cities while Dapitan ranks in second. The Municipality of Mahayag, Zamboanga Del Sur bested other LGUs in the 1st to 3rd Class Municipalities Category while the Municipality of Piñan, Zamboanga Del Norte bagged the number one spot in the 4th to 6th Class Municipalities Category. While the Municipality of Dinas topped the award for the Most Improved LGUs Category.

DILG IX Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil, CESO III said that the RDPI award will strengthen the commitment of the LGUs in the area of disaster preparedness and likewise the department shall afford them with proper guidance in enacting policies and conceptualizing programs to maintain or scale up their performance.

The RDPI is an initiative of DILG Regional Office IX that started in 2018 and became an annual program of the department that will continue to inspire LGUs to do more and put disaster preparedness in their respective priority agenda. #
