Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – June 03-04, 2024 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX held its Ladderized Leveling Sessions on Gender and Development (GAD) Track 1 on June 03-04, 2024, at the Conference Room, DILG IX, Balintawak, Pagadian City. The two-day event aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the DILG IX GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) Executive Committee, Technical Working Group, and Secretariat on key GAD concepts and mandates.
Arnold M. Ferolino, a Certified GAD Resource Person of the Philippine Commission on Women, led the sessions, offering comprehensive insights into various facets of GAD. The training encompassed seven key sessions: an orientation on the legal frameworks and policies governing GAD in the Philippines; an introduction to foundational GAD principles, including gender sensitivity and mainstreaming; an exploration of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC), highlighting inclusivity and diversity; an examination of social institutions and their role in reinforcing or challenging gender norms; guidance on the use of gender-fair language to promote equality and avoid bias; a discussion on current gender issues and challenges, providing a platform for sharing experiences and insights; and a summary session encapsulating the essence of GAD and its importance in both the workplace and broader society.
The session created an engaging and interactive atmosphere, enabling participants to enhance their grasp of GAD principles and their practical application. This effort is a testament to DILG IX’s ongoing dedication to advancing gender equality and empowering its workforce through continuous education and capacity-building initiatives.
DILG IX continues to be committed to promoting an inclusive and equitable work environment for everyone.
