Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur – On August 24, 2023, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX undertook a mission of great importance within the community of Pisompongan, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur. This endeavor, aligned with the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) Immersion, was specifically aimed at enhancing the capacity of Barangay-Based Institutions (BBIs) in the area. 

Acknowledging the vital function of BBIs in fostering unity, protecting the well-being of women and children, responding promptly to health crises, and tackling drug-related concerns, DILG IX prioritized the enhancement of these institutions throughout the event. 

The occasion assembled prominent individuals who are staunch advocates for BBIs, entrusted with the responsibility of guaranteeing the effective operation of these crucial institutions. These committed individuals assumed central roles in this endeavor:

  • Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC), led by LGOO VI Elmer Egama, spearheaded efforts to combat drug-related issues in Pisompongan. 
  • Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), under the guidance of LGOO V Peter Paul Silorio, focused on maintaining peace and order within the community. 
  • Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC), led by LGOO IV Chrisjoe Morales, worked diligently to create a secure and harmonious environment.
  • Lupong Tagapamayapa, overseen by LGOO IV Ronie Jade Biosada, played a crucial role in mediating and resolving conflicts amicably.
  • Barangay VAW Desk, headed by LGOO VI Mae Ann Tuden, stood as a beacon for women’s rights and protection. 
  • Barangay Development Council (BDC), supported by C4PEACE Regional Technical Assistant Jose Rolando G. Ortega was instrumental in driving community development initiatives. 
  • Barangay Ecological Solid Waste and Management Committee (BESWMC), under the stewardship of STAT I Heljane Garnica, worked towards sustainable waste management practices.
  • Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC), led by LGOO V Peter Paul Silorio, focused on disaster preparedness and response strategies.

The occasion provided a forum where these committed individuals could come together, exchange their expertise, and participate in skill-enhancement activities. Workshops and discussions were organized to bolster their capabilities, guaranteeing their readiness to effectively serve the community.

DILG IX maintains its steadfast dedication to fortifying BBIs. These essential institutions, crucial for the community’s welfare, have been bolstered to effectively confront the distinctive challenges and prospects presented by Pisompongan.

The event stands as proof of DILG’s commitment to nurturing independent, tranquil, and advancing communities. It has strengthened the groundwork upon which the community can prosper, guaranteeing a more promising future for its entire population.
