Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX organized an impactful training workshop on the formulation of the LGU’s Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) at Hotel Camila, Dipolog City last August 01-04, 2023. This event brought together crucial participants, comprising the Municipal Mayor, the Local Planning Team, the Provincial Director of DILG Zamboanga del Norte, PD Oliver B. Ombos, valued collaborators such as Jannette J. Icao from Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU), as well as experts serving as Focal Persons for CDP at both the regional and provincial levels. 

The primary objective of this gathering was to equip the local government officials and planners of LGU Polanco with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively update and formulate their CDP. 

Understanding the Significance of CDP

The Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) functions as a directional manuscript form municipal administrations, delineating their ambitions, targets, and methodologies to foster lasting progress. It acts as a masterplan that molds the destiny of a locality, taking into account diverse facets like infrastructure, social amenities, environmental preservation, and economic advancement. 

Empowering Local Planning

The workshop commenced with an introductory speech by the Municipal Mayor, where he conveyed his dedication to Polanco’s progress. He stressed the significance of this training, highlighting that a properly organized CDP holds the potential to enhance the allocation of resources, foster greater community involvement, and, in the end, improve the overall well-being of their residents.

The Local Planning Team, comprising committed members from diverse departments, enthusiastically engaged in the workshops and discussions. They acknowledged that the formulation of a CDP necessitates a profound grasp of the community’s requirements, assets, and areas that need improvement. 

Promoting Sustainable Development

Over the course of the workshop, attendees actively participated in intensive dialogues, practical activities, and interactive training sessions. They acquired the skills to pinpoint key development priorities, evaluate the resources at their disposal, and formulate feasible action blueprints for reaching their objectives. Furthermore, the workshop underscored the significance of involving the community, ensuring transparency, and upholding accountability throughout the development planning process.

The workshop concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to putting the knowledge gained into practice. The LGU Polance team left with a clear roadmap for updating their CDP, one that is not just compliant with guidelines but truly reflective of the aspirations and needs of their community.  

DILG IX continues its unwavering commitment to aiding local governments in their quest for sustainable development.
