Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur – February 12, 2024 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX, in partnership with the Dinas Local Government Unit, organized a briefing session regarding DILG Memorandum Circular 2021-054, which focuses on formalizing the establishment of Local People’s Council.
Conducted at the SB Session Hall in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur, the orientation sought to acquaint stakeholders with the directives and guidelines delineated in the memorandum circular. It served as a platform for attendees to grasp the importance of forming Local People’s Councils and their contributions to local governance.
The orientation began with Vice Mayor Nelson G. Macarate delivering an opening address, emphasizing the significance of citizens actively participating in decision-making within the local community.
Led by DMO III Febie L. Marquez, the DILG IX Support to Local Government Program (SLGP) Team guided the session, exploring fundamental elements of the memorandum circular. This encompassed discussions on the structure, roles, and duties of Local People’s Councils.
During interactive dialogues and informative presentations, attendees acquired knowledge about the most effective methods and approaches for involving communities to enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusivity within local governance processes.
The orientation highlighted DILG IX and the LGU Dinas’ dedication to enhancing participatory democracy and promoting increased cooperation between governmental bodies and civil society organizations.
