Zamboanga City – On October 25, 2023, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX hosted the highly-anticipated Annual Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Local Government (LG) Whiz Masters at Universidad de Zamboanga in Tetuan, Zamboanga City. This thought-provoking and captivating contest offered a day filled with education, enlightenment, and amicable competition, uniting the most accomplished LGU officials, dedicated individuals from the DILG, and the most brilliant emerging talents from educational institutions in Zamboanga Peninsula. 

The primary objective of the event was to enhance participants’ comprehension of the Philippine Constitution, the Local Government Code, and their pivotal contributions to the country’s governance. In addition, the event explored subjects pertaining to disaster risk reduction, sustainability, and innovative approaches in the realm of local governance. 

Following a fierce competition, the champions of the Annual DRR and LG Whiz Masters were revealed across the categories which included Local Government Units (LGUs), Colleges, and City/Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (CLGOOs/MLGOOs).

Winners in the Local Government Unit (LGU) Category included:

1st Place: Zamboanga Sibugay

2nd Place: Zamboanga del Norte

3rd Place: Zamboanga City

In the College Category, the winners are: 

1st Place: Andres Bonifacio College

2nd Place: JH Cerilles State College – Main Campus

3rd Place: Ateneo de Zamboanga University

The City/Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (C/MLGOOs) Category saw the following winners:

1st Place: DILG – Zamboanga del Sur

2nd Place: DILG – Zamboanga Sibugay

3rd Place: DILG – Zamboanga del Norte

The victors of the event were acknowledged and praised for their outstanding proficiency and skills in the fields of local governance and disaster risk reduction. 

DILG IX wholeheartedly congratulates the champions and expresses gratitude to all the participants for their invaluable contributions to the success of this event. The department’s unwavering dedication to nurturing a more knowledgeable, ready, and robust local government sector continues.
