Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX proactively embraced the theme “People First: Stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention” during the 2023 Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week. Demonstrating a dedication to enhancing community welfare and eliminating the stigma linked to substance abuse, DILG IX organized a noteworthy event centered around social responsibility.

The proceedings kicked off with a cordial Welcome Message presented by Paisal O. Abutazil, CESO III, the respected Regional Director of DILG IX. His introductory comments established the atmosphere for an occasion designed not only to tackle the issues associated with drug abuse but also to emphasize the significance of collective unity in nurturing more robust communities. 

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. conveyed a compelling message, underscoring the government’s dedication to the well-being of its citizens and the shared responsibility in addressing the challenge of drug abuse. 

Secretary Catalino S. Cuy, who serves as the Chair of the Dangerous Drugs Board, presented the 2023 Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Celebration Message, elucidating the strategic measures implemented to enhance preventive actions.

The occasion also included presentations from prominent figures within the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) IX Clusters. Director Laurefel P. Gabales, PhD, the Regional Director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority (PDEA) IX, was effectively represented by Agent Aldous B. Restor, who serves as the Chief of Operations Division. Ruth C. Perucho, the Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Justice – Parole and Probation (DOJ-PPA) IX, provided valuable perspectives on the joint endeavors in combatting illegal drugs.  

The solemn commitment expressed in the Pledge of Commitment echoed throughout the event, emphasizing the unwavering dedication to the cause and underscoring the significance of collaborative efforts in bringing about enduring transformation. 

DILG IX remains resolute in its dedication to prioritize the well-being of individuals and establish communities liberated from the clutches of drug abuse. Initiatives such as this underscore the department’s proactive involvement with the community, promoting cooperation and underscoring the importance of prevention and assistance as fundamental factors in constructing a society that is both healthier and safer.
