Zamboanga City – February 27, 2024 – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IX and Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) collaborated in a significant endeavor to address Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). This joint effort was highlighted by the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the project titled “VAWC Insights: Barangay VAWC Desk Portal.” 

The signing of the MOA, conducted at WMSU’s Office of the President Conference Room, signifies the joint commitment of both organizations to address VAWC cases comprehensively. The project’s goal is to create a Barangay VAWC Desk Portal, which will play a crucial role in combating VAWC by serving as a platform for disseminating information, managing cases, and monitoring VAWC incidents at the barangay level. 

Present at the ceremony were delegates from DILG IX, headed by Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil, CESO III, and WMSU, headed by President Ma. Carla Ochotorena, along with other important officials and stakeholders. This partnership between DILG IX and WMSU highlights the significance of collaborations in tackling societal challenges like VAWC. 

Through this collaborative effort, DILG IX and WMSU are taking proactive steps to empower communities and ensure the protection of women and children against violence and abuse. The project is a testament to their shared commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive society for all.
