Eighty-one provinces, 145 cities and 1,489 municipalities have been assessed and evaluated in the past few months by the Department of Interior and Local Government to meet the standards of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) awards, which are given to the best performing local government units (LGU).
The DILG will confer in the coming months all awardees in an island cluster-wide awarding ceremonies that will be held in Southern Luzon, Northern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The SGLG awards aims to provide a greater challenge for our LGUs to continue their good governance practices while providing better services to their constituents.
Piloted as the Seal of Good Housekeeping back in 2010, the awards continue to raise the bar of accountability and transparency of our LGUs as it was scaled up to the Seal of Good Local Governance in 2014.
To become an SGLG recipient the LGU needs to pass the “4+1” core assessment criteria, which are the following; Good Financial Housekeeping, Social Protection, Disaster Preparedness, Peace and Order and at least one from the essential assessment areas – Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Tourism Culture and the Arts, and Environmental Protection.
LGUs that have passed the assessment and are qualified shall have accessed to various incentive programs and loans such as; Performance Challenge Fund Incentives, access to windows of National Government Agencies (NGA), access to loans, and continuing capacity development projects.
