Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – July 10-12, 2024 – In a bid to further enhance the efficiency and accuracy of road design processes, the department through PDMU IX recently conducted a three-day intensive training workshop on Civil 3D for its engineering team.

This event aimed to provide participants with in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience using Autodesk’s Civil 3D software, a leading tool in civil engineering and road design. The workshop commenced with a warm welcome from Paisal O. Abutazil, the Regional Director.

The first day focused on introducing Civil 3D and its user interface, setting the stage for a deeper dive into the software’s capabilities. Trainers from DILG Regional Office, Engr. Jhon Eduard Obordo and ZDS Provincial Office, Engrs. Rom Oliver T. Perez and Mc Allen Barrientos, with experience in civil engineering and road design, led the sessions.

Participants learned about creating alignments, profile design, and corridor modeling, fundamental elements for any road design project. Hands-on exercises allowed attendees to apply their new skills immediately, reinforcing the day’s lessons.

Day two delved into more complex aspects of Civil 3D. The topics include assemblies and sub-assemblies, corridor modeling, grading in Civil 3D, Cross section, pipe networks and parcels. Regular breaks provided opportunities for networking and discussions, enhancing the collaborative learning experience.

The final day of the workshop was dedicated to mastering the advanced features of Civil 3D and exploring best practices. Sessions began with creating and managing surfaces, a fundamental skill for any civil engineer. This was followed by an in-depth look at utilizing point clouds, a cutting-edge technique for enhancing the accuracy and detail of road designs.

The workshop concluded with a session on advanced features and best practices in Civil 3D, equipping participants with the knowledge to tackle complex projects efficiently. A comprehensive Q&A session allowed attendees to clarify doubts and discuss specific challenges they might face in their work.

Throughout the workshop, participants praised the detailed and practical approach of the training. The workshop wrapped up with closing remarks from Engr. Jhon Eduard Obordo, who encouraged participants to continue practicing their new skills and exploring the capabilities of Civil 3D.

The three-day workshop on Civil 3D for Road Design was a resounding success, providing valuable knowledge and skills to all attendees. As participants left with a deeper understanding of Civil 3D and its applications in road design, they were well-equipped to apply these tools in their future projects, contributing to more efficient and effective road design processes.

The DILG Region IX is committed to investing in the professional development of its employees and believes that this training will significantly contribute to the overall improvement of road design and project delivery in the region.
