alt  The very high proportion of about 97% households with no access to safe water in barangay Tanayan, Pres. MA Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte have been lifted up after the newly-completed spring development and installation of potable water supplies project was turn-over to them on August 4,2014.

2010 NSO census shows that the village is inhabited by 853 people with 171 households and half of the population are Subanen. With this statistics, only 3% of the households have access to safe water.

Reported incidence of diarrhea in the barangay and water-borne related diseases are prevalent attributed to unsafe water taken from the spring and other sources.

Also, medical records have reported cases of capillariasis to residents living along the river in the hinter barangays.

People in the area have persistently struggled in fetching water from the source that took them an hour back to their respective homes and becoming even more difficult for the residents to fetch water during rainy seasons due to poor road accessibility.

Through the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig Para Sa Lahat (SALINTUBIG) program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the existing problem of the said barangay have been solved.

A total of Php 1.5M was allocated for the spring development and installation of potable water supply project.

During the inauguration and turn-over ceremony, Hon. Mayor Jan Henrick Vallecer pointed out that the grant has truly answered the major problem of his constituent particularly to Barangay Tanayan.

In response, Hon. Risa Pahoway, Punong Barangay, expressed her gratitude together with all the residents for the provision of potable water that greatly helped them in ensuring health safety and securing them from any water -borne diseases as well as minimizing the burden in their daily household activities.

SalinTubig program is designed to provide grant financing and capacity development programs for the implementation of water supply projects in waterless municipalities as part of the government’s effort to achieve Goal No. 7 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to halve by 2015 the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
