The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is a dynamic government agency mandated by law to assist the President in the exercise of general supervision over Local Government Units.

 

 

     Operating offices and bureaus responsible for the peace and order and public safety functions of the Department are the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Philippine Public Safety and College (PPSC).

 

     LINKAGES. DILG has established regional offices throughout the county to implement the policies and programs of the Department and work closely with the Local Government Units from the province down to the barangays, National Government Agencies (NGAs), and Civil Society including Non Government Organizations (NGOs) and People’s Organizations (POs) to become effective partners in national development.

 

     COVERAGE. DILG IX administratively covers there (3) provinces namely: Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay; and five (5) cities namely Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian and Zamboanga.

 

     The current politico- administrative organization comprise of 67 municipalities and 1,904 barangays. By virtue of Executive Order No. 429 (October 12,1990), the Peninsula’s Regional Center is Pagadian City while the City of Zamboanga is the commercial and industrial center.
