Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – The Department of the Interior and Local Government IX – Local Government Regional Resource Center (LGRRC) Public Education and Citizenship Facility recently conducted the 4th installment of the Coffee Mondays last July 24, 2023. 

The event served as a platform for discussing relevant issues and challenges faced by the facility in relation to the facility’s programmatic function. The primary focus of this gathering was to address the lack of knowledge products and layout artists in the Department, seeking effective and innovative solutions for their resolution. 

During the meeting, the attendees actively discussed and recognized the significant obstacles in the region concerning knowledge products like newsletter and annual reports, as well as the scarcity of layout artists. These challenges impeded the efficient distribution of essential information and best practices in local governance, which plays a vital role in the region’s advancement and growth. 

Several different approaches were already tried to tackle the mentioned problems. Workshops specifically focused on layouting and graphic design are proposed to be organized. While hiring dedicated graphic designers proved beneficial, it faced challenges due to financial limitations for long-term employment. Proposals were put forward for internships with schools and partnerships with educational institutions such as TESDA and colleges, showing potential for sustainable solutions. Additionally, forming collaborations with media outlets aided in disseminating information, but it demanded ongoing effort and financial investment.

In response to these challenges, the attendees put forward a range of more effective and creative strategies. They suggested recruiting an Information Officer with graphic design expertise to ensure a continuous production and design of knowledge products. Additionally, they advised setting aside specific days dedicated to layouting and content creation. Moreover, they proposed the formation of a restructured team called RADIANT (Regional Advocacy, Information and News Team) with a clearly defined work plan. Furthermore, they recognized the value of investing in resources like multimedia equipment to elevate the quality of communication and information dissemination. 

To ensure the effective execution of the proposed innovations, the participants deliberated on the essential resources needed, which encompassed securing financial assistance for acquiring essential tools such as Google Form, Canva, BeLive, and Padlet. Emphasis was placed on the significance of formulating regional orders, financial plans, and work plans to obtain approval and allocate resources properly. 

During the deliberations, the essential functions of the LGRRC Public Education and Citizenship Facility were emphasized. These encompass raising awareness among LGUs about emerging best practices and innovations in local governance, fostering excellence in local governance through knowledge sharing, and facilitating conferences and discussion on exemplary practices, policy matters, and effective tools and procedures. Moreover, the facility’s dedication to maintaining seamless communication with stakeholders through various social media platforms and online resources was also highlighted. 

By adopting inventive strategies, the facility aspires to effectively overcome these challenges. With appropriate planning, endorsement, and execution, these proposed innovations are expected to significantly enhance local governance practices and innovations in the region, fostering overall progress and development.
