Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – In a bid to advance gender-responsive governance, select Local Government Units (LGUs) in Region IX participated in the Training-Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming Efforts for LGUs held on February 13-14, 2025, at Hotel Guillermo, Pagadian City

The two-day capacity-building initiative brought together Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS) members from various LGUs in the region, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to integrate gender perspectives into local policies, programs, and projects.

Serving as the resource person for the training was Prof. Rosalyn Echem, a Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) – Certified GAD Resource Person, who provided in-depth discussions on gender analysis, GAD planning and budgeting, and the implementation of gender-responsive initiatives at the local level. Through interactive sessions, case studies, and hands-on workshops, participants were guided on strengthening their respective LGUs’ commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The training underscored the crucial role of local governments in institutionalizing GAD policies, ensuring that development programs address the needs of all sectors, particularly women and marginalized groups. Participants expressed their commitment to applying their learnings in their LGUs, enhancing gender mainstreaming efforts in governance.

This initiative reflects the ongoing push for inclusive and equitable development in Region IX, reinforcing the national government’s advocacy for gender-responsive local governance.
