CITY OF PAGADIAN—Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 63 series of 1992, the Local Government Units (LGUs) in the country celebrated the 23rd Anniversary of the crafting of Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 on October 10, 2014 with this year’s theme “Ang LGUng Magaling, May Nararating”
In Memorandum Circular No. 2014-129 dated October 3, 2014 issued by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas, LGUs are encouraged to initiate activities openly promoting the LGUs’ achievements in line with their efforts of improving and strengthening local governance practices anchored on the tenets of transparency, accountability and active people participation.
At the local front, DILG IX Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil said that this year’s theme calls for all LGUs to celebrate milestones and achievements arising from performance and excellence.
“Ang LGUng Magaling is in recognition of the LGUs initiative to make a meaningful difference arising from the powers of local autonomy,” he said.
He underscored that the birth of the Local Government Code of 1991 gives power to LGUs to become autonomous. “Now it has been given, then it must be celebrated”.
“ LGUs have various initiatives at their level aside from hanging of banners and uploading photos that captured the achievements under the “Proud Kami sa… sub portal” he added.
In closing, he encouraged local government units (LGUs) to actively support the month-long activities by organizing various activities to mark the 23rd anniversary.
