Stagnated flood waters, becoming breeding ground for mosquitoes are the perennial problem of the residents in Poblacion, Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

As a center hub of the town,it was displeasingin the public eyes that during festivites, people have to find another route to free themselves from such filthy waters that reticulated the roadway.

But these are not the condition anymore when the Local Government of Mabuhay was awarded with Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) fund worth Php 2,978,350 from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on 2015.

With that amount, the municpality shelled out Php 52, 805.67 as the LGU’s counterpart for the construction of 420 meters drainage canal.

Such project came after the Civil Society Organizations consultation where it came up to be the priority project.

Mr. restituto Sumicad, 47 years old, a fish vendor, described that before they have to drain the water using a pail and carry it farther.

“It’s laborious on our part and mostly when it will not be thrown away, it will spoil us here”, he said.

“Now that the drainage canal is constructed, it lessens our workload and saves much time while attending to some other chores in the flea market”, he added.

With the project, they are no longer embarrassed to their costumers.

Same sentimentwas brought up by Ms. Leonora Sagadsag, 41, a housewife. She said that it’s good to have drainage canal in front of their home. there is no more stagnated water that causes to be muddy and looked like paddy. It looked very untidy and displeasing. We are scared that it will become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

In this regard, Mr. Romerico Calonge, the village chieftain, encouraged the residents to amintain the cleanliness of their respective areas. He is likewise that his constituents have benefitted from the said project.

“Aside from maintaining clealiness in the streets, it also secures people from sickness brought about by a dirty environment. Now, whenever heavy rain comes, we don’t need to worry for flood because we alrready have this drainage canal”, he added.
