Barangay Assemblies are set to be conducted on the 26th of this month. This is in pursuant to Chapter 6, Section 397 of the Local Government Code. According to the law, Barangay Assembly should be conducted not less than twice in a year. This is the venue where the Barangay Officials will discuss the state of the Barangay, programs of and for the Barangay, July to December 2015 accomplishments and other important matters that needs to be deliberated to the residents.
The Barangay Assembly shall be spearheaded by the Municipal/City Mayors, Liga ng mga Barangay Chapter President and the DILG Regional Director. Actual residents of the Barangay – those who have lived in the barangay for six (6) months or more, fifteen (15) years old and above, a Filipino Citizen, and registered in the Barangay Assembly members may be invited to participate in the said activity. Faith-based organizations, Ugnayan ng mga Barangay at Simbahan (UBAS) and other Civil Society Organizations are also invited. These organizations can also discuss and clarify their roles in the implementation of the Barangay Bottom-Up Budgeting (BBUB).
Any resident may file a complaint against the Barangay Officials in the event that they fail to conduct the Assembly.
The Barangay Assembly aims to strengthen the ties between the Government and the community for the effective delivery of basic services to the constituents.
