Barangay Tanayan has a total population of 853 in 171 households based on the 2010 National Statistics Office (NSO) census. Half of the population consist of Subanen tribe. With that population, only three percent has access to potable water.

Residents in the area have to struggle to fetch water in the mountaintop, creeks and springs though unsafe, simply to meet the needs for their needs on water.

They persistently struggled in fetching water from the source that took them an hour back to their respective homes and becoming even more difficult during rainy seasons due to poor road accessibility.

These depressing conditions have been lifted up after the newly-completed spring development and installation of potable water supplies project was turn-over to them on August 4, 2014.

Through the  P1.5 million spring development and water system project under the  DILG’s Sagana at Ligtas ng Tubig sa Lahat (SALINTUBIG) program, the residents of Barangay Tanayan will no longer struggle to fetch water since they now have it right on their door-steps.

Roxas Municipal Mayor Jan Henrick Vallecer said the completion of the SALINTUBIG project has solved the water needs of his constituents, the residents of Barangay Tanayan.

Hon. Risa Pahoway, Punong Barangay, expressed her gratitude together with all the residents for the provision of potable water that greatly helped them in ensuring health safety and securing them from any water -borne diseases as well as minimizing the burden in their daily household activities.

“Several years that the residents here in Tanayan, Roxas have suffered on accessibility to water. Greatly affected were the children who usually came late in the class because of the distance where they took a bath,” she said.

“We are very thankful that through the DILG’s Salintubig, the daily operation of our residents in our barangay is now in order. To the women, it lightens their loads for they no longer travel to laundry their clothes and thus maximize their time at home. In fact, they could attend already to other activities in the barangay as well as outdoor activities with other women’s organization,” she added.

SalinTubig program is designed to provide grant financing and capacity development programs for the implementation of water supply projects in waterless municipalities as part of the government’s effort to achieve Goal No. 7 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to halve by 2015 the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
