May 31, 2023 | The Department of Tourism (DOT) recently launched the Mindanao Tourism Convergence with the ceremonial signing of Memorandum of Agreement among DND, DOT and DILG to promote socio-economic growth in Mindanao through enhanced tourism opportunities. The event, held at Marcian Convention Center, saw the participation of distinguished government officials, including the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, Atty. Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr..

This initiative aims to breathe new life into Mindanao’s socio-economic landscape by creating job opportunities and elevating the region’s tourism appeal.

Also gracing the event are Undersecretary Angelito De Leon of the Department of National Defense and Secretary of Tourism Christina Frasco.

SILG Abalos passionately implored the local government units (LGUs) to fortify the pillars of peace and harmony, while wholeheartedly rallying behind the DOT’s tireless endeavors to revolutionize tourism in the region and embrace Mindanao’s boundless potential. Aware of tourism’s transformative power as an economic catalyst, he underscored the crucial significance of unity and cooperation, urging the LGUs to forge a symbiotic partnership with the DOT, thereby unlocking the untapped abundance of tourism opportunities that lie within the enchanting tapestry of Mindanao.

The symbolic signing of the MOA among the Department of Tourism, the Department of National Defense, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government served as a powerful testament to the unwavering dedication of these agencies in synchronizing their endeavors and pooling their resources to nurture and advertise Mindanao as a top-tier haven for travelers. This agreement represents a consolidated front, working towards establishing a favorable atmosphere for the growth of tourism, with a keen focus on fortifying infrastructure, fostering peace and security, and implementing effective destination marketing strategies.

The coming together of these governmental bodies seeks to harness the abundant cultural legacy, breathtaking natural marvels, and genuine warmth of Mindanao to entice visitors from near and far.
