Inculcating in the hearts and minds of every Filipino youth the importance of readiness in times of disaster and calamity, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sibugay Province in coordination with the Provincial Local Government of Zamboanga Sibugay spearheaded a two-day activity dubbed as, “Wemboree for Disaster Risk Reduction: A Disaster Resiliency Camp” on May 25-26, 2015 at the Provincial Capitol Complex, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. 

 
DILG Acting Provincial Director Arnel F. Gudio emphasized that this activity as part of the series activity on disaster preparedness is an initiative engaging the youth sector. It can be recalled that disaster is everyone’s concern and utmost, all stakeholders have to be involved and empowered.
 
“This time, the youths are counted in our commitment in mobilizing all human resources to proactively take measures towards mitigating the impact of disasters,” he said.
 
“In this activity, we also recognized the role played by our Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers each municipality together with the youth representatives in their areas to be oriented on effective and creative communication strategy, resource mobilization, disaster response, rehabilitation and recovery efforts about disaster”, he added.
 
Expected lined-up activities include the grand campfire, fire truck shower, battle of yells, canvass painting and jingle making that will truly unleash their potentials handling challenges.
 
“In general, we are hopeful that this activity would stir up participant’s willingness to be in-aide of disaster operations through volunteerism”, he said in closing.
