alt   Following the confirmation of the appointments of the Peace and Order Council (POC) chairpersons in the country by the Office of the President, Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Governor Roberto Y. Uy was named as the new Chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) of Zamboanga Peninsula.

    Pursuant to Executive Order No. 773 series of 2009, and in his capacity as Chair of the National Peace and Order Council (NPOC), Governor Uy was appointed by Department of the Interior and Local Government ( DILG ) Secretary Mar Roxas, and the same was approved and confirmed by President Benigno S. Aquino III.

 

   The confirmation of new RPOC IX chairperson was personally announced by Sec. Roxas during his visit to Zamboanga del Norte last May 29,2014 on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the province.

 

   Among the functions of the RPOC is to formulate plans, recommend measures to improves peace and order and public safety and monitor implementation of the peace and order programs within the region.

 

   For his part, DILG IX Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil expressed optimism over the appointment of Governor Uy as RPOC IX Chair, emphasizing that, as Secretariat to the RPOC, DILG in the region is eagerly looking forward to working with the local Peace and Order Council towards ensuring stability and security in Region IX.

 

   Director Abutazil further stressed the need to intensify public involvement in the implementation of programs and projects that will be responsive to the existing local peace and order problems.

 

   Governor Uy is expected to lay-out his agenda and plans in his tenure as RPOC Chair during the council’s first meeting for the CY 2014 scheduled on June 27,2014 in Dipolog City.

 

   The RPOC is a 32-member council composed of Heads of National Government Agencies, Local Chief Executives of the Local Government Units, Private Sector Representatives, among others, with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Director as Vice Chairperson.
